Everyday, I have to find the courage to forgive myself and those who wish any pain towards me. My life is an ongoing journey of learning to become more forgiving and open. Losing someone I love and enduring that pain on a daily basis has been the hardest part of my life. I have been forced to open my heart and look inwards and beyond. Getting in touch with our own suffering, paying attention to it, can help us see the suffering of others.
Prayer and spiritual practices of all kinds are meant to bring us peace and there is no peace without forgiveness. I am a work in progress, and the more I hurt, the more my heart opens. My suffering is the way to my maker and to my own self.
If Sufism has taught me anything, it is the recognition of our own internal struggles and demons. We cannot forgive others, if we do not forgive ourselves. Reconcile with our own failings, past mistakes and failures.
May God allow us to purify our hearts, may God clean our hearts of blame and hurt. May God put us on the path of love and harmony. May God unite us with our loved ones. May God bring us peace, where there is discord and misunderstanding. May God allow us to forgive those who wish to harm us. May God help us become the best versions of ourselves. May we be useful to others and be a source of joy. May our communities grow and prosper and may this country remains a beacon of freedom, hope and safety for people around the world.
